OH SUZANNA RUTLAND - DON'T CRY FOR ISRAEL!!
Belatedly the government has offered an unequivocal rebuff’’
to the anti – Israel boycott. The Australian 13/12 ALP hits out at Israel
boycott.
They should ask the ‘Peace - Studies Centre’ what they did
with the $500,000 Cut and Paste The Australian 12/12 given to them by the
government and assure us that they will recover funds and not further support
the tomato – red faction of politics and academe.
This may resolve some conflicts embedded in the minds of
Professor Suzanna Rutland and all others who have finally discovered the courage
to vitiate the actions of Lynch.
But look at Rutland’s words:
‘’Professor
Rutland, a member of the university's Department of Hebrew, Biblical and Jewish
Studies, warned of the impact of religious fundamentalism and extremism on both
sides of the conflict in the Middle East.
"Since BDS only
targets Israeli universities and other products, I believe this creates an
asymmetric view of the conflict," she said.
Professor Rutland
said she had been concerned by the centre's position on BDS for a number of
years, while supporting the centre's other work.’’
What other work,
Professor?
Inviting avowed enemies of
Israel to bash Israel? [ See great other letters The Australian 13/12] Please
spell it out – for the sake of your students!
This Professor Rutland, a member of the university's
Department of Hebrew, Biblical and Jewish Studies, should be ashamed of herself
in making such a mealy – mouthed highly qualified
comments.
I verily ask- where was she
during these years?
What was she teaching her
students?
Peace studies is a throw – back to days when watermelons
had not been invented and Baghdad Bill Hartley demonised Jews. Joan Coxedge is
still into bashing Israel with anti – nuclear thrown to her repertoire of prolix
thinking.
Furthermore, nothing changes with the left: Professor Duncan
Ivison Letters 13/12 now ostensively supports Jake Lynch rights:
‘’I defend Lynch’s right to do so’’ then
effectively contradicts himself in same letter to editor in denying Sydney
University support for the BDS against Israel.
Alas it gets worse for Ivison. He plainly contradicted his
current contradiction AKA freedom of speech ethic! In The Australian 8/12 I
quote him as follows":
‘’The
dean of the university's arts and social science faculty, Duncan Ivison,
yesterday wrote to Jake Lynch spelling out that "he does not speak for the
faculty on visiting scholars and cannot make decisions about who comes
here".: Centre chief Jake Lynch rebuked over Israeli
snub 8/12:
‘’The dean of the university's arts and
social science faculty, Duncan Ivison, yesterday wrote to Jake Lynch spelling
out that "he does not speak for the faculty on visiting scholars and cannot make
decisions about who comes here".

That's the Australian government that allocated $500,000 to fund
Lynch's discipline, peace studies journalism; University of Sydney website,

(TO) carry out research
over three years to establish criteria based on peace journalism for a global
standard in news reporting about conflict. The project is intended to strengthen
the credentials of peace journalism both as a research agenda and an instrument
for media reform advocacy. It will seek to elaborate and define standards of
fairness and accuracy of representation, and examine what kinds of news are
psychologically harmful and beneficial to readers and
audiences.
